FLW is the most renowned architect of the Prairie Style, the only style that is purely American. FLW designed all aspects of the house from the architecture, landscaping, fixtures and furnishings. The house was constructed of Roman brick, mortared intentionally to add to the horizontal flow of the building. The windows and ledges were places with intention, utilizing angles accentuate privacy.
